Ellen and Brandon’s Backyard Wedding in Aptos, CA

Ellen and Brandon's Backyard Wedding in Aptos CA-28.jpg

Friday was a record breaker in Aptos (a city just south of Santa Cruz). While the central coast is notorious for being foggy and cool during the summer, on Friday it was over 106 degrees! Despite the heat everyone was so excited and happy all day. None of us could stop mentioning the heat, because 100% there were moments where it felt like we were melting. BUT Nothing was going to stop these two from enjoying their beautiful day. 8 1/2 years in the making, even with covid changing all their original plans, this wedding was going to happen and it was a beauty. Set in the hills above the ocean, this home has a very California/Spanish/Italian villa vibe. With olive orchards and tons of beautiful outdoor spaces, it was the perfect backdrop for a wedding.

Ellen has grown up visting this place, from various places all over the world, so for her and her family, it really felt like being home. I know that feeling so well, since Ellen has lived a very similar experience to mine. In fact it’s how we know each other, our families meet and got to know one another overseas. And any anchors or permanent spots in the world for us travelers are few and far between, and mean so so much. So getting married at the front door to one of her favorite spots in the world, dining al fresco in the back patio with the last rays of the day, it felt like a moment dipped in honey. Everything soft and sweet, and tinged in amber color.

As the day turned to night the cool ocean breezes finally got to us and the party really began. Dancing, laughter and joy, producing sounds the bounced all down the hillside below the house, echoing into the night. I will definitely never forget this wedding, and it was a true pleasure to be there, as part of the family.

The biggest and warmest virtual hugs to you and Brandon as you start this new chapter! I know your story will be a beautiful one. :)
